How We Work in Bangladesh

Three pathways HPS Bangladesh uses to scale nutrition through farmers — from seed, to market, to plate.

What This Is

Investing in early generation seed production and multiplication, farmers’ access to farming knowledge and multiplied seeds, seed retailers, and farm community awareness—we facilitate increased production and consumption of nutritious crops and foods.

What It Looks Like in Bangladesh

In 2025, more than 34 million people consumed zinc rice, representing a 38 percent increase over the previous year. Private and public sector seed companies produced more than 14,200 metric tons of zinc rice seed during the year —an increase of 34 percent compared to 2024—ensuring greater availability of nutrient-rich rice for farming communities.

What This Is

Connecting zinc rice and wheat farmers to millers, aggregators and markets — and supporting the processing and branding that turns zinc rice into a product consumers can find and choose.

What It Looks Like in Bangladesh

On average, each farming household produced enough zinc rice to cover about eight months of an average family’s rice supply — nutrition and food security in the same harvest. Farmers who grow it often sell surplus seed to neighbours, spreading it farmer to farmer.

What This Is

Raising awareness of the benefits of nutrient-rich crops among farming families and caregivers, with a focus on women — and integrating zinc rice into broader nutrition programs.

What It Looks Like in Bangladesh

More than 18,000 individuals received training in 2025, including smallholder farmers, entrepreneurs, and market actors. Notably, 70 percent of participants were women, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to inclusive food systems transformation.
