FMC Indonesia, in collaboration with HarvestPlus Solutions and the Agricultural Instrument Standardization Agency—Badan Standarisasi Instrumen Pertanian (BSIP) under the Ministry of Agriculture, is driving innovation in rice farming to boost both productivity and nutritional value. This strategic partnership focuses on Zinatra, a specialized zinc-based product that enhances rice plant growth while increasing its zinc content—an essential nutrient for human health.
Transformative Field Trials Show Remarkable Results
Between October 2024 and January 2025, a field trial was conducted to evaluate Zinatra’s impact on rice production. The results showed a 20 percent increase in rice yields – farmers can now harvest significantly more rice, higher zinc content – rice saw a 9.7 ppm increase in zinc levels, from 15.9 ppm to 25.6 ppm making it more nutritious for consumers.
Why This Matters
Zinc plays a crucial role in human health, particularly in children. It supports growth, brain development, and a strong immune system. Zinc deficiency is a major cause of stunting, which affects millions of children in Indonesia. By fortifying rice with zinc, this initiative contributes to combating malnutrition and improving national food security.
“This project is about innovation with real benefits for farmers. We aim to enhance agriculture while supporting Indonesia’s food security goals,” said Adisti Sukma Nirmala, the marketing manager of FMC Indonesia.
By integrating scientific advancements with field applications, this partnership is paving way for a more sustainable agricultural future in Indonesia. Key benefits of this initiative include:
• Promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices
• Enhancing farmers’ economic stability through increased yields
• Strengthening national food and nutrition security
As research continues, further trials and program expansions will help optimize the scalability and long-term impact of zinc-enriched rice production in Indonesia. “Better rice means better health. Adding zinc to rice can help reduce stunting in children,” stated Sulaiman Ginting, Country Lead Indonesia at HarvestPlus Solutions.
A healthier future starts with better farming—this collaboration is a crucial step toward ensuring both nutritious food and sustainable agriculture for Indonesia.
